Shooting Death of Alex Pretti

On January 24, 2026, Alex Pretti was shot to death by two ICE agents in Minneapolis MN.

Cell phone recordings of the shooting made at two different locations are shown below. Beck Audio Forensics performed this analysis for the Washington Post and the BBC.

The first 4 gunshots line up exactly between the two recordings, as shown by the red dashed lines, indicating they were fired from the same location.  The spectrum peaks of these four gunshots are around 500 Hz, indicating they are from the same caliber firearm.

The next six gunshots line up but with a different angle, as shown by the green dashed lines.  These gunshots were fired from a slightly different location from the first four gunshots and have spectrum peaks around 900 Hz – indicating they were fired from a different caliber firearm from the first four gunshots.

The gunshot alignment and the spectral peaks are a strong indication that two shooters with different caliber firearms were involved in this shooting.
